New Delhi: After buying micro-blogging site Twitter, Tesla Chief Elon Musk on Wednesday said he was buying English football club Manchester United Plc.
However, it is not confirmed whether the billionaire investor was seriously buying it or not. However, his tweet took the internet by storm.
"I'm buying Manchester United ur welcome," he tweeted.
Soon after tweeting, the tweet garnered tens of thousands of likes and also triggered responses from social media users.
Notably, earlier this year, Musk offered to buy the social media platform Twitter, however, he backed out of the deal claiming that the social media platform has a large number of spam bots and fake accounts than what the micro-blogging site had revealed.
Following this development, Twitter has sued Musk accusing Musk of using the concerns about spam and bot accounts as an excuse to get out of the deal.
Netizens were shocked by Musk's tweet about buying a sports club. One United supporter wrote on the micro-blogging platform, 'You have absolutely no idea how much hope you have for your one million fans worldwide. Please buy us.'
Recently, Manchester United fans protested against the Glazers because they were angry at the club's steep decline in the years following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.
Manchester United is one of the most famous football clubs in the world and it is controlled by the American Glazer family.
According to data, the market capitalization of this football club was 2.08 billion dollars.
As far as Musk is concerned, he is the chief of Tesla and SpaceX CEO and is touted to be the most successful tech entrepreneur and investor in the world. He turned 51 in June this year. Musk, born on June 28, 1971, often remains in the news for his updates on his ventures such as SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Co. He is also known to comment on politics, pop culture, and world events.
As per Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with an estimated net worth of around $203 billion as of June 2022, Musk is the wealthiest person in the world.
In 2002, Elon Musk founded SpaceX of which he serves as CEO and Chief Engineer. In 2004, he was an early investor in electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors, Inc. (now Tesla, Inc.).
