Silchar: A few members of right-wing group Bajrang Dal on Saturday night disrupted Christmas celebration in Assam's Silchar district.
The members of the Bajrang Dal reportedly forced their way into a church and demanded it to be shut down and claimed that Hindus could not take part in Christmas festivities.
According to reports, they said that they had no issue with Christians celebrating Christmas but they will not allow Hindu to do so as December 25 was 'Tulsi Diwas'.
"Let Christian celebrate Christmas and we are not against this festival. We are against Hindu participating in the such function. Today is also Tulsi Diwas of Hindus but no one celebrated it and it hurts our sentiments. How will our religion survive,'' said one of the members of Bajrang Dal in a video circulated online.
The said video shows that many people gathered outside a church in Silchar on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, no case has been filed in this regard as according to local police it was a 'small commotion'.
