GUWAHATI: Actress Kangana Ranaut has begun filming Emergency in Assam, her upcoming project. Ranaut recently travelled to the state in search of filming locations and stopping at places like Kaziranga and Karbi Anglong.

The performer shared a photo from the set of the movie on her Instagram Stories along with the caption, "Ok, let's do this. Commencing Assam schedule... #emergency"

Emergency, written and directed by Ranaut, is advertised as an account of a turning point in India's political history. In the upcoming movie, she will be playing the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The makers of Emergency revealed on Thursday that actor Vishak Nair has been cast in the role of Sanjay Gandhi. Nair has primarily appeared in Malayalam movies like Aanandam, Puthan Panam, and Chunkzz.

Nair joins the cast, which also includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, and Milind Soman.

"One of the most important individuals in Mrs. Gandhi's life is Sanjay. I needed a performer who could portray a man who was still innocent but also cunning at the same time. He is equally passionate and competent. The man could play a wide range of emotions and needed numerous shades," Kangana stated in an interview while praising Nair.

"After searching for a face for more than six months, I chose to introduce him as the face. I'm happy to be introducing a new face in a massive film following Avneet. Vishak is a fantastic actor who has appeared in several Malayalam films. Since this is his first Hindi movie, I have no doubt that he would do Sanjay's character a great justice, " she added.
