TMKOC Fame Munmun Dutta Interrogated For Four Hours In Jail, Released On Bail Later
Munmun Dutta was arrested for her casteist remark in a YouTube video last year. Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the actress to appear before the investigating officer DSP Vinod Shankar.
MUMBAI: Munmun Dutta known for the role Babita Ji in TMKOC (Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma) was arrested earlier in relation to a casteist remark in a YouTube video in the year 2021.
On Monday 7 February the actress was interrogated about the case for 4 hours in a police station in Haryana.
The remark by the actress led her to enter into a huge controversy last year as her comment on the Dalit society had offended a large section of people. She had even issued an apology statement for making such a derogatory remark targeting a particular cast.
However, an FIR was filed against Munmun in Hissar police station located in Haryana on the basis of which police interrogated her for 4 hours but later she was granted bail.
As per the instruction by Punjab and Haryana High Court order, Munmun had to appear in front of the investigating officer Vinod Shankar, the Deputy Superintendent of Police in relation to her case.
The anticipatory bail plea of the actress was rejected on 28 January this year by the special court established under the SC/ST Act in Hisar.
Last year the actress made an offendable remark on the scheduled caste which created a lot of buzz about her as she was called out on various social media platforms.
In the video, she said that "I come on YouTube, and I want to look good, I don't want to look like a bhangi" and the words directly targeted the scheduled community people.
As soon as her comment turned against the people, Munmun had trimmed the video that she shared on YouTube with a controversial comment.
Later she had no option left rather the apology and issuing an apology she stated that she was genuinely misinformed about the meaning of the word that she used for a cast.
She further wrote that she had no intention of insulting, humiliating, hurting, or intimidating the feelings of anyone by the word that she used in the video.
She clarified by saying that it was due to the language barrier that the word got misinterpreted and after knowing about the exact meaning she had removed that part.
Munmun added that she is regretful for the statement and she has the utmost respect for every single individual belonging to any caste, creed or gender.
