GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that if the COVID-19 situation in the cities like Guwahati, Tinsukia, and Dibrugarh doesn't improve in the next one week, the government may impose stricter measures to contain the spread.

Speaking to the media, Chief Miniter said that lockdown might be imposed in a few parts of the State, wherein there is a surge in COVID-19 cases.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma made this statement after holding a meeting with the doctors and staff of the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) and National Health Mission (NHM).

Further, the Assam government on Friday issued an order o paste posters outside the residences of COVID-19 positive patients.

The order has issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority which states that there have been reports that some COVID positive persons do not observe COVID appropriate behavior and end up spreading the infection among the uninfected persons who come in their contact.

Further, the order states that "Therefore, it is necessary to put an identifying mark, on places where such persons are self-isolated or quarantined, for the larger benefit of the community. It, however, stated that pasting of posters outside the residences of COVID-19 positive persons "will be done only if such a residence is used by the COVID-19 positive person for self-isolation or quarantine purpose and such posters shall be removed as soon as such person/persons turn COVID-19 negative".

The order also stated that there has been a "significant surge of COVID-19 cases across the State" in the last few days.
