People who don't have access to ancient family images and recollections — or who want to go deeper — may turn to DNA testing to fill in the gaps in their family tree.

AncestryDNA (an Ancestry.com subsidiary) and 23andMe are two prominent services for learning about your family history.

Both require a saliva sample and DNA analysis to determine your family's origins. With the help of given samples, the study discovers associations with different users.

Furthermore, the analyses can provide wellness and health reports that include information on cancer risks, health predispositions, carrier status, and other topics.

23andMe and Ancestry are the only two major testing firms that don't ship to India, and Amazon India lists both FamilyTreeDNA while MyHeritage kits as "temporarily unavailable."

Ancestry and Health results are available separately from 23andMe. An Ancestry report costs $99, and an Ancestry + Health report costs $199. Both kits include everything you need to get started and require the collection of a saliva sample.

23andMe:

23andMe, Inc., located in Sunnyvale, California, is publicly-traded personal genomics and biotechnology firm. It examines differences in your DNA at certain locations. These variations, known as SNPs, have given characteristics, such as eye or hair colour, as well as certain health concerns.

Ancestry:

It's an autosomal DNA test with a larger client database (20 million)

AncestryDNA's accuracy percentage for each marker tested is over 99 per cent on average.

Ancestry vs. 23andMe:

The famous DNA tests in the world are AncestryDNA and 23andMe:

Genetic genealogy, also known as genetic ancestry testing, allows those interested in family history (genealogy) to discover more than they can through relatives or historical documents.

  1. AncestryDNA just looks at your autosomal DNA, whereas 23andMe looks at your autosomal DNA, mtDNA, and yDNA (if you're a man). The most prevalent DNA testing are autosomal assays. These forms of DNA show the haplogroup, or lineage, from which you descended on your mother's or father's side.
  2. The outcomes are also different. AncestryDNA just gives you an ethnic breakdown of your DNA via an interactive map, but 23andMe does more.
  3. AncestryDNA to chose if you're seeking genealogy information and discover ancestors, simply because it has a lot larger database.
  4. Nonetheless, 23andMe has a sizable user base of 5 million people, and the business excels at giving you more information about your DNA than simply an ethnicity estimate since it examines more of your DNA. It's also significantly more informative than AncestryDNA, which essentially displays you an ethnicity map and matches you with individuals.
  5. Ancestry boasts 16 million user profiles compared to 10 million for 23andMe, which should provide more accurate findings in principle.
