DENTAL ISSUES

During dental bonding, a dentist applies resin, which are of the colour of the tooth to the required teeth in order to change their shape, size or colour. Many cosmetic dental treatments, such as porcelain veneers are irreversible. However, the case is completely different in terms of dental bonding as it is completely reversible.

Dental Bonding is a very common practice in dentistry in present times. Dentists use it to conceal chips or cracks in one's teeth, to camouflage tooth discoloration, close gaps and spaces between your teeth, make one's teeth appear longer and even to change the shape of someone's teeth. Most of the time, dentists use it to bring about cosmetic enhancements to a person's smile. Among all the modernised treatments and procedures in today's world of dentistry, dental bonding is one of the most frequently performed procedures. However, what exactly is dental bonding?

For the unversed, dentists also refer to dental bonding as composite bonding or teeth bonding. This is a cosmetic dentistry procedure, which dentists use in order to enhance a person's smile. During dental bonding, a dentist applies resin, which are of the colourof thetooth to the required teeth in order to change their shape, size or colour. Many cosmetic dental treatments, such as porcelain veneers are irreversible. However, the case is completely different in terms of dental bonding as it is completely reversible.

Pre Dental Bonding Procedure

Before initiating the process of dental bonding, a dentist will have a discussion or talk with you and ask your cosmetic goals. Next, they will take dental X-rays of your teeth and gum to cross check that you are eligible for the procedure. Prior to dental bonding if the dentist notices that if you have oral health problems like severe tooth decay or gum disease, they will make you undergo treatment for those issues first.

Dental Bonding Procedure

Shade Selection: Initially, the dentist will select a composite resin material from a shade guide, which matches the colour of your teeth.

Tooth Preparation: In the next step, the surface of your tooth will be roughened and the dentist will apply a conditioning liquid. This step ensures that the bonding material sticks to your tooth.

Application of the composite resin material: Next, the dentist will apply, mould and shape the resin material into the desired shape.

Curing of the material: In the next step, a special curing light is used to harden the composite material. This "bonds" the material and the surface of the tooth together.

Polishing: In the final step, the dentist will touch upon the final necessary adjustments and polish your tooth to a natural-looking shine.

Notably, the procedure requires a duration of 30 to 60 minutes per tooth to complete.

After you undergo dental bonding, you need to ensure proper oral hygiene to keep your mouth healthy and bright. Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day. You should use a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Flossing between your teeth at least once daily will ensure healthy tooth and gums. Lastly, you should visit your dentists for check-ups and cleanings at regular intervals.

Dental bonding is preferred so much as it does not require any enamel removal. Moreover, it is cost-effective and versatile in terms of the many issues that it is used for. And the last but not the least, it is very fast and convenient unlike many other dental procedures.
