NEW DELHI: It has been just one year since the number of Covid infections gradually decreased in the country and dengue fears has griped major regions across the country. Assam and Manipur from the Northeast, West Bengal from the East, Maharashtra in the West Punjab and Haryana in the North, Tamil Nadu in the South and Uttar Pradesh and NCR at the very heart of the country, almost all states of the country are now facing major outbreaks of this illness. Deaths related to this infection are also on the rise across the country.

Rural Assam and Manipur started reporting isolated incidents of dengue fever at the end of September itself. When the rains caused by cyclone Sitrang gradually stopped, the number started shooting up. So much so that the Karbi Anglong district of Assam had to order the closure of educational institutions in the state for a week.

West Bengal reported more than 40000 cases with more than 500 in the capital city itself. With a local mayor leading the anti-dengue campaigns in the city, the number seems to be in control now.

Punjab had reported nearly 8000 cases of dengue fever in the last few months. It also reported ten deaths related to this illness as of now. But according to reports, this year reports a record low number of infections of dengue. Neighboring Haryana also has a similar story to tell.

Mumbai, the financial capital of the country is also suffering from similar conditions. The city reported more than 60 positive test results in less than a week. To add to the woes of the Mumbaikar, Swine Flu infections have also increased rapidly in the last few days.

Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, the High Court pulled up the state government for not being able to handle the outbreak of dengue after several people lost their lives. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was forced to order the setting up of a special dedicated healthcare unit in each district of the state to combat dengue.

The dengue outbreak has hit the NCR region as well. On one side is the very bad quality of air and rising dengue infections on the other.

Awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives and fogging measures have been helpful in preventing further outbreaks in several parts of the country. But the lack of any dedicated medical treatment makes this illness a potentially fatal one.
