ENPO Representatives to Meet Amit Shah This Week

NEW DELHI: A meeting will be held in the capital of the country towards the end of the week to discuss the separate statehood demand in the Easter part of Nagaland.

Leaders of the six districts of Nagaland, which wants to break away from the state, have a meeting with the Union Home Minister in New Delhi next Saturday. Reports mention that the Union Home Minister invited the team over to the capital to discuss the matter and take necessary steps.

Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) is the umbrella organisation of these districts which are expecting to break away and form a new state. These six districts have six major tribes of the state and they are going to express their unhappiness regarding the neglect of this region over the years.

In an announcement made by the organisation previously, it had threatened to pull out of the popular Hornbill Festival of the state of Nagaland. The festival is scheduled to start on December 1 and ENPO represents 6 major tribes in the state. Last year's event was marred by the shooting of villagers by the Indian Army in the Mon District, which is also one of the districts that want to pull out of Nagaland. Following the incident, these six tribes pulled out of the festival immediately which ultimately led to an early closing of the hyped festival. No confirmation has been given regarding participation this year.

ENPO had also asked the representatives of the region to quit their positions as a mark of solidarity to the cause while threatening to boycott the upcoming election in the state. The Northeastern state of Meghalaya and Nagaland will go to elections in the first half of next year.

The Chief Secretary of the state had earlier mentioned that the state government had requested the representatives of the members and tribal leaders associated with the ENPO to reconsider their decisions.
