New Delhi: The controversy surrounding the transfer of IAS Rinku Dugga and her husband IAS Sanjeev Khirwar, who were involved in vacating Delhi's Thyagaraj Stadium early in the night and walking their dog there, has heated up.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and former CM Omar Abdullah have also raised questions over the issue and Moitra going a step ahead has called it ''disrespectful'' to Arunachal Pradesh.

Hours after a media report regarding the misuse of facilities at Delhi Tyagaraja Stadium by IAS Sanjeev Khirwar and his wife Rinku Dugga, the Home Ministry on Thursday took action against both of them.

The ministry has transferred the duo. Khirwar has been transferred from Delhi to Ladakh and Dugga has been transferred to Arunachal Pradesh.

While taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, slammed the centre for only paying lip service to the northeast region.

Tagging Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, Mahua urged them to protest against MHA's treatment of Arunachal Pradesh as a "dump for your rubbish".

She further said the transfer of an 'errant Delhi bureaucrat' to Arunachal Pradesh is a shame for the state.

''Why shame Arunachal by transferring errant Delhi bureaucrat there? Why pay lip service to North East & then treat the area as a dump for your rubbish, MHA? Please protest @PemaKhanduBJP @KirenRijiju,'' she tweeted.

In an order, dated 26th May 2022, the Home Ministry said Khirwar, a 1994-batch IAS officer from AGMUT cadre, is shifted to Ladakh and his wife to Arunachal Pradesh with immediate effect.

According to media reports, the home ministry has sought a report from the Delhi Chief Secretary after taking the cognisance of a news report regarding the misuse of facilities at Thyagraj Stadium by Khirwar and his wife.

Once the report of the same is received by the Home Ministry, necessary action will be taken against them, the reports claimed.

Earlier, it was alleged in the media reports that the Thyagraj Stadium was being closed for sports activities earlier than usual so that Khirwar could walk his dog at the facility.

However, following the incident, the Delhi government has directed all state-run sports facilities in the city to stay open for sports till 10 PM.

''I have been apprised of the matter that sportspersons are facing problems because of the heat and the stadiums get closed by 6 or 7 pm. We are issuing instructions that all sports facilities should remain open till 10 pm so that sportspersons can use them," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told reporters.
