ITANAGAR: Arunachal Jankalyan Sangathan (AJKS) on Monday took to the street over the corruption charges levelled by the organization against the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC). Holding placards and banners, the agitators participated in a rally from Akashdeep complex to Tennis court, IG Park.

Speaking to the media, AJKS chairman Nabam Tama alleged that they have already submitted representation to concern authority even to the Governor regarding the alleged corruption prevailing in the IMC, but till date no action has been taken.

He alleged that the present IMC officials are involved in multi-crore-rupee corruption with regard to funds under the 14th and 15th Finance Commission and other Centrally-sponsored schemes.

Tama also claimed that IMC is practicing the 'offline' mode of project tendering to manage corruption by "pick and choose" policy, whereas it is in the public domain that the departments have already adopted an online tender system for any kind of work.

"The offline mode of tender process is a violation of the Central Public Works Department which is not applicable, especially under Centrally-sponsored schemes. We will wait for next 15 days, and if no action is taken then the organization will go for another democratic movement," Tama added.
