TEZPUR: The 61st Teachers' Day was observed in the Sonitpur district on Monday at a meeting held at the auditorium of the Tezpur Government HS (Boys) School by Sonitpur district administration and Education department. Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra presided over the meeting where Tezpur MLA Prithviraj Rabha was present as the chief guest and eminent educationist Dr. Bhubaneswar Saharia was present as the keynote speaker. Altogether, 32 teachers from across the district were felicitated on the occasion.

Tezpur University Teachers' Association also celebrated Teachers' Day at the Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha (KBR) auditorium at Tezpur University.

The formal session of the event started with a welcome note from Prof. Debendra Chandra Baruah, the President of the Teachers' Association where he mentioned about the importance of multi-dimensional roles of teachers under changing scenario to strengthen the institution of higher education as per the aspiration.

The programme was attended by Prof. Vinod Kumar Jain, Vice Chancellor of the University; Dr. Biren Das, Registrar besides faculty members of the University including Prof. Manabendra Bhuyan and Prof. Ananta Kumar Nath who are retired professor of the University. The faculty members and dignitaries present in the event paid homage to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan by lighting of ceremonial lamp.

The Teachers' Association also honoured Prof VK Jain, Prof Manabendra Bhuyan, and Prof. Ananta Kumar Nath during the event for their academic contributions. In his address, Prof. Jain encouraged the teachers to be inspired by the philosophy of Dr Radhakrishnan and contribute to nation building. Prof. Bhuyan and Prof. Nath shared notable experiences of their teaching career in the University.

The formal session was followed by a vibrant cultural programme presented by faculty members of the University. The cultural programme included, among others, alluring choruses, poem recitation, Shyama Sangeet, group dances, storytelling, instrumental performances, Bihu dance, and Assamese song performances. The performances were enjoyed with fervour by teachers, students, and non-teaching staff of the University. The event was hosted by Dr Reetamoni Narzary.
