Assam: 16- Year Old Housemaid Found Hanging From Fan In House She Worked.
The owner of the house Kuldeep Dev Sharma was detained by the Basistha Police after the family of the housemaid alleged that he was responsible for her death, having mentally and physically abused her.
GUWAHATI: A 16-year-old girl from Kokrajhar was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside a residence located in Lavanya Path in the Ghoramara area in the city, where the minor girl was working as a housemaid, on Monday afternoon.
The owner of the house Kuldeep Dev Sharma was detained by the Basistha Police after the family of the housemaid alleged that he was responsible for her death, having mentally and physically abused her.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Basistha Police Station told reporters that family members of Sharma found the housemaid hanging from the fan on Monday afternoon at around 12.30 PM and immediately informed the Police.
Sharma lives with his family of five members- including his wife, parents and a child. After the family of the deceased arrived at Kuldeep's residence, they accused him of her death and filed a complaint at the Basistha Police Station. The OC revealed that a case was registered by the family members of the deceased.
The family members of the deceased girl alleged that she was mentally and physically abused by Kuldeep Sharma. According to them, she had been working in Sharma's house for one and a half years, but she was never allowed to visit her hometown.
The body of the deceased has been sent to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem.
An investigation is ongoing, said the police, and that further details will be revealed after the post- mortem results are out.
