GUWAHATI: The Adivasi Militants of Assam will most likely sign a peace accord with the Centre soon.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam updated the public about this probable undertaking.

CM Sarma mentioned that the state might see the Centre signing the peace accord with the Adivasi Militants within September 2022.

The minister said, "Centre is likely to sign a peace accord with Adivasi militant groups of Assam within this month."

Adding to his statements, the minister asserted that the discussed peace process with the Adivasi militants is being undertaken under the initiative of Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister.

According to sources, the said Adivasi militant groups are inclusive of the All Adivasi National Liberation Army, Adivasi Cobra Militant of Assam, Bisra Commando Force, Santhal Tiger Force and Adivasi People's Army.

The decision comes in as a result of the Adivasi militant group being in a ceasefire with the government for a long duration. Additionally, these Adivasi militant groups have been residing in designated camps for quite some time.

Notably, the Centre also signed an agreement in the year 2020, namely the Bodo Peace Accord with the militant group - National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).

According to sources, the Centre has also decided to release financial packages for people of communities like the Adivasis, Bodos and Koch-Rajbongshis, who were reportedly displaced as a result of the riots that happened in the state.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister also emphasized on the notion that the State Government exists to grant more power to bodies like the Kamatapur Autonomous Council and Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council.

In other cabinet decisions, plans to provide Rs 500 crore for the development of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). 10 schools in BTR would be provincialized and the Bodo would be introduced as a medium of teaching. Along with that, the Cabinet also decided to scrap off 48 obsolete acts.
