KOKRAJHAR: The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet today announced that the Government of Assam has decided to celebrate popular Bodo activist Upendranath Brahma's birthday on March 31st as Chatra Divas in the state.

Upendranath Brahma toiled hard for the upliftment of the Bodo community. The Bodo community, which is also known as the "Sons of the soil" of Assam was on the verge of losing its culture and language due to the coming of different communities into the state but under the strong leadership of Upendranath Brahma, The Bodo community got a new lease of life and also was able to accord the rightful respect for the community. Upendranath Brahma is rightfully known as "Bodofa"(The Guardian of the Bodos) in the state for his contribution to the Bodo community.

Assam CM Sarma laid the foundation of a ₹10 cr burial ground for Upendranath Brahma under the state's 'Special Infrastructure Development Project'. CM Sarma through a tweet remembered the contribution of 'Bodofa' to the Bodo community.

Sarma before the Cabinet Meeting in Kokrajhar went straight to Upendranath Brahma's house in Dotoma where the Chief Minister spent some time with the family and enquired about their well-being and also ensured all government support toward the family.
