Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika Urges CAA Protestors Not To Disrupt Grade III & IV Posts Exams
Speaking further over the protest against CAA by North East Students Organization (NESO) across the northeast, the minister said everyone is free to have their own beliefs and thoughts.
Guwahati: Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika on Thursday urged the protestors who are protesting against CAA not to disrupt the upcoming examinations of grade III and IV posts in the month of August and September.
He appealed to protestors during a press conference at Janata Bhavan in Guwahati.
''On August 21, 28, and September 11 we will be conducting recruitment examinations of grade III and IV posts in 25 districts where as many as 14 lakh candidates will sit for the said exam. If the protestors do not disturb them or disrupt the examinations by holding a protest in these districts, we will be thankful to them,'' he added.
Speaking further over the protest against CAA by North East Students Organization (NESO) across the northeast, the minister said everyone is free to have their own beliefs and thoughts. Just like us.
''Anyone opposing the CAA has their own opinion and we don't disrespect them. But I would like to request them not to hamper or discourage these Assamese people by circulating fake information,'' he added.
He further shed some light on the misinformation that was spread when the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) was passed as an act in 2019.
''There was much fake information circulating at that time. In one of that misinformation, fake news was circulated via WhatsApp claiming that around 2.5 crores of Hindu Bangladeshis will enter Assam and they would go to Upper Assam and capture properties. But nothing sort of that happened,'' he added.
Later, he also clarified that CAA does not specify that crores of Hindu Bangladeshis will enter Assam adding, ''This a fake news which is being spread.''
Meanwhile, along with the rest of the Northeastern region, a protest programme was carried out in the city on Wednesday under the aegis of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) as per a call given by the North East Students Organization (NESO).
The protest programme was carried out in support of various demands of the NESO, which include repeal of the Citizenship (Amendment) ACT (CAA); a permanent solution to the problem of illegal migrants in the North-East; weeding out of jihadi and fundamentalist elements from the region; total withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from the North-East; Imposition of the Inner Line Permit system in all States of the region; 'national calamity' status of the flood and erosion problem of Assam; grant of Constitutional safeguards to the indigenous people of Tripura and Assam, etc.
