Assam Police Busts Fake Currency Racket in Nagaon, Hojai

GUWAHATI: Two fake Indian currency note printing machines and a large number of fake currency notes were seized, and four persons arrested by Assam Police, in two separate operations in Nagaon and Hojai districts on Thursday.

Upon receipt of a secret tip-off, a police team of Kachua police station in Nagaon district launched an operation in a house in the Kachua area of the district.

During the operation, police seized one Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN)-printing machine, 103 numbers of fake notes with Rs 500 denomination, 6 numbers of Rs 500 notes, one bundle of A4 size paper, one motorcycle, and three mobile phone handsets from the premises.

Police also managed to arrest three persons identified as 35 year- old Jalal Uddin, hailing from Hatikhuti, Kachua; 42 year- old R. Vanlalruati and 40 year- old Zoramchhani, both belonging to Ramhlum, Vengthar II, Aizawl of Mizoram.

At the same time, police arrested a person and recovered a number of fake currency notes in the Doboka Mikirati area in Hojai district on Thursday.

The arrested person carrying the fake notes was identified as Abdul Jalil.

A police Sub-Inspector connected with the operation said that, based on secret information, they had launched the operation and apprehended one person, while recovering some fake currency.

"We received information that a person will do a deal of fake currency notes and we sent some police personnel in civil dresses to the man as a customer. Later we apprehended the person and recovered fake currency notes, and one fake currency notes-making machine from his possession," the police officer said.

A few days back, Nagaon police had conducted an operation against a fake currency racket in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati and recovered fake currency and machines used to print the fake currency from a rented accommodation in the area. The police team also apprehended four people, including a woman, in connection with the case.
