Assam: Son Allegedly Strangles Mother to Death, Arrested

HAILAKANDI: In a tragic incident, a retired woman was allegedly killed by her foster son in Assam's Hailakandi District on Thursday.

Tension was brewing between the two of them as relatives accuse the victim's son of harassing his mother for quite some time now.

The victim identified as Joyshree Debroy was found dead inside her bedroom located near the Toll Road area in the district.

Police said, "A plastic rope was found beside the body and it's suspected that she was strangulated with it. A detailed investigation will reveal more about the case and if there are more people involved in this sensational murder".

The family members have given their verdict that Tridip Debroy, the foster son is the killer as he has been harassing her for a long time.

The family members also said that they lodged a complaint against Tridip earlier for harassing his mother but withdrew it as Tridip asked for forgiveness for his insensitive behavior toward his mother.

The police have arrested Tridip and he is been put under investigation light.

In a similar incident a year ago, a man killed his own mother and turned himself into the police in the Pandu area of Guwahati.

In the interactive map, which shows the countries where people are most likely to be murdered, India is in a dangerous zone.

India's homicide rate – 4.5 per 100,000 people – has been going down and leveling off, but it is still a bit alarming. It is still four times higher than the homicide rate in the UK, well above the average in OECD countries but below the global average of 6.3.
