Assam: Three of Family Electrocuted In State's Hailakandi District

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, three members of a family, including a 4-year-old boy electrocuted at Bilaipur village in Hailakandi district of Assam.

As per reports, the four-year-old boy reportedly was on his way out from home. On reaching the main road near his home, he came in contact with live wires, which led to his death.

Authorities identified the boy as Rajibul Hussain Sheikh.

The other two deceased members include the boy's parents who came rushing out on hearing their son scream. The boy's father is Sufian Ahmad Sheikh while the mother is Husnara Begum Sheikh. As both of them tried to save their son after noticing the disaster they too died in the process.

Additionally, another village youth, Zahid Hussain Sheikh, reportedly came into the contact with the three family members and died along with them.

The incident covered the Bilaipur village of Hailakandi in an aura of gloom.

Following the incidents, the locals of the village alleged that the incident took place due to the negligence of the power board.

In previous electrocution incidents in Assam, a worker in the Dhemaji district died while working in the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP) in the month of October 2022, due to electrocution.

Prior to this, in another case of electrocution, a worker lost his life in similar circumstances in the same project. The deceased workers were identified as Rajesh Saikia and Jitu Hatibaruah respectively.

Workers reported the unsecured working conditions many times but got no response from the concerned authorities.

Reportedly, the workers demanded the authority to secure their working conditions before the incident in August. In the last 12 months, as many as nine workers have lost their lives at the SLHP site.
