GUWAHATI: Junior physicians from Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) staged a candlelight protest on Tuesday after being "brutally attacked, dragged, and imprisoned" during rallies in Delhi over the NEET-PG 2021 counselling delay.

Hundreds of resident physicians from several government-run institutes in Delhi have been protesting for many days, asking that the NEET-PG counselling process be accelerated.

The protest took a dramatic turn on Monday, when physicians and police officers clashed in the streets of Delhi, with both sides claiming casualties.

The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) claims that some of its members were "detained" on Monday while attempting to organise a protest march from Massachusetts General Hospital to the Supreme Court.

The young physicians at GMCH staged a protest today in support of the Delhi doctors who are on strike. The resident physicians have petitioned the Supreme Court to speed up the NEET-PG counselling procedure, which has been halted due to a batch of economic reservation applications being dismissed.

A group of resident physicians were detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday as they marched to the residence of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in protest at the NEET-PG 2021 counselling delay.

For the last month, the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association has led the protest. A number of Resident Physicians Associations (RDAs) around the nation have threatened to shut down medical services on Tuesday as a result of police "brutality" towards protesting doctors.

The RDAs have stated that they would continue to protest till the Delhi Police apologises for the alleged crackdown on physicians and NEET-PG 2021 counselling commences. The Delhi police, on the other hand, has filed an FIR for interfering with police officers' duties and causing property damage.
