Jhumoir dance contest held at BRMGM College, Doomdooma at Rupaisiding

DOOMDOOMA: For the first time, a Tinsukia District Inter-College Jhumoir dance competition was organized by newly established Bir Raghav Moran Government Model (BRMGM) College, Doomdooma at Rupaisiding on Saturday. The competition was held in the auditorium of Saurav Kala Parishad.

Narasing Power, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tinsukia, who is also the president of the governing body (GB) of the college, lit the ceremonial lamp. Mulendra Moran, representative of MP from the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency, Pradan Baruah, delivered the inaugural speech. The programme, which was anchored by Dr Pranita Neog, vice principal, was attended by local MLA Rupresh Gowala, Union Minister of State Rameswar Teli and MLA of Digboi Suren Phukan. Jhumoir Samrat Padmashree Dulal Manki was the chief guest of the occasion and headed the fou- member panel of judges - Biren Koiri, Bishnu Nayak and Trilok Singh Mehra. Manki delighted the participants and the audience with his speech which was intermingled with fold songs of the tea community.

Along with the Jhumoir competition, the freshers' social of the college was also held. To its credit, its Jhumoir team begged the first prize while Makum College team and Doomdooma College team were adjudged second and third best teams of the event respectively. They were awarded cash prizes. Leading artist Amit Tanti and the newly admitted students of the college also took part in the cultural programme and enthralled the audience with their performances. The programme came to an end with offering of the vote of thanks by assistant professor Karabi Dutta.
