DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Sonowal Kachari Xahitya Xabha (SKXX) and with active co-operation of its Tinsukia District committee and Rupai Brach committee, a commemorative meeting of noted writer and former President of Asam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), Professor Jogesh Das was organized at Kallol auditorium of Doomdooma college on Friday with a day long programme. The programme got underway with lighting of ceremonial lamp by former Majinder of Baitho Sal of Barpather Promod Sonowal and offering of floral tributes in front of portrait of Jogesh Das by former Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bhuban Chandra Bora.

Thereafter the commemorative meeting which was held with Mohan Sonowal, president, SKXX, in the chair, was inaugurated by Guneswar Sonowal, founder president and current adviser SKXX. Attending the meeting as appointed speaker, Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika, former Professor, Kalaguru and Xahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah lamented that although the people, especially the new generation, forget the literature soon, yet it is their creation which makes them immortal. Giving an account of writer Das' style of writing and his creative genius as reflected in his short story like 'Kalpatuar Mrityu' and his famous novel written in the backdrop of second world war 'Dawor Aru Nai', she laid stress on republication of all his books and on translation so as to get wider exposure to outside world. Along with Das, she also made reference of late writer, journalist Nirod Chaudhury and eminent poet late Hari Barkakati, both of whom hailed from Doomdooma and was in all praise for Jogesh Das's book in English 'Folklore of Assam'. The meeting was also addressed by Arjun Baruah, President, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha, poet Sarifa Khatun Chaudhury, Chief executive, SKAC, Journalist Dhiren Deka, Barhajual Santanu Das and writer Benu Bora.
