March 31 declared as Students' Day in Assam

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma declared March 31, the birthday of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma as the Students’ Day in Assam.

KOKRAJHAR: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday declared March 31, the birthday of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma as the Students' Day in Assam. The Chief Minister along with other Cabinet ministers on Tuesday morning visited Thulungapuri, Dotma-the burial place of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma in Kokrajhar and laid the foundation stone for infrastructure development at Thulungapuri. He also visited Bodofa's residence at Boragari and met the family members.

Addressing the gathering, Sarma said Bodofa not only worked for the uplift of the Bodos but also for other communities and declared March 31, the birthday date of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma as the Students' Day in Assam. He interacted with the family members of Bodofa and took details about family members, their sources of livelihood and other basic needs. Later, he called upon the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro to look after the family and extend support.

After paying tribute to Bodofa UN Brahma at his tomb at Thulungapuri, Sarma while talking to reporters announced Rs. 5 crore from the Bodoland Welfare department, Rs. 3 crore from State government and Rs 2 crore from BTC for the infrastructure development of Thulungapuri. He said the UN Brahma Trust Committee will decide the development infrastructures. He further said the Thulungapuri would be made an attractive tourist centre. He further said that the long standing demand of ABSU regarding the demand of Students' Day on March 31 will come into reality. Bodofa UN Brahma was born on March 31, 1956 at Boragari village, Dotma in Kokrajhar district.
