LAKHIMPUR, Sept 5: Along with the rest of the nation, the 61st Teachers' Day was celebrated in Lakhimpur district by the academic institutions in order to mark the crucial role, played by the teachers in moulding students' lives and careers and to commemorate the birth anniversary of scholar and Bharat Ratna-recipient Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The BA and MA students of the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) observed the event by organizing various programmes in a befitting manner in the conference hall of the college. It began with the lighting of earthen lamps in front of the portrait of philosopher-scholar Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and then a chorus song presented by the students. The open session of the event was chaired by Head of the Department Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa while Departmental Secretary Debabrat Saikia. Then the students accorded warm felicitatation to the teachers. It was followed by the unveiling of the departmental wall-magazine 'Shanti-doot", edited by students Parishmita Baruah. In Lakhimpur Commerce College, the day-long celebration of Teachers' Day began with the lighting the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Dr Radhakrishan by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college.
