Trafficked Arunachali Minors Rescued from Guwahati Hotel

ITANAGAR: Four minor girls who went missing from the Manabhum area in Diyun circle of Changlang district, were rescued from a human trafficking racket in Assam's capital city Guwahati on Sunday.
A joint team comprising Arunachal and Assam Police personnel managed to raid Ornate Naga Guest House in the Rukminigaon area in Guwahati after receiving an intel and was successful in rescuing the girls, Changlang Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo said in a statement.
A kidnapping case was registered at Diyun Police Station in Arunachal Pradesh after receiving an FIR regarding the missing children on September 8.
The Arunachal Police jumped into action and started an investigation into the matter immediately. Diyun Police Station Officer in Charge N Rango launched an operation and it was found that a woman named Nivedita Chanda was associated with the kidnapping. During phone tracing, it was found that Chanda's last active location was Guwahati. With the help of human intelligence which was deployed in the operation, it was found that the exact location where the girls were held captive was Ornate Naga Guest House in Guwahati.
Thereafter, Changlang Superintendent of Police Gambo coordinated with Assam Police Deputy Inspector general of Police (DIGP) Prasanta Changmai and Dispur (Assam) Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sudhakar Singh and shared with them the exact location and detailed information about the missing girls and the suspected woman.
Accordingly, a convoy of Assam and Arunachal Police rushed to the hotel and rescued the minor girls, and also detained the accused Nivedita Chanda.
"Swift action of Changlang district police in coordination with Assam Police under supervision of Police Headquarters (PHQ) Itanagar led to the successful rescue of the minor girls from human trafficking racket," SP Gambo said in a release.
"The rescued children have been handed over to their guardians through the Child Welfare Committee, after completing legal formalities and necessary counseling," Gambo added.
According to a report by the National Human Rights Commission of India, 40,000 children are abducted each year, leaving 11,000 untraced. The NGOs estimate that between 12,000 and 50,000 women and children are trafficked into the country annually from neighboring nations as a part of the sex trade.
