The 39th Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated throughout the state with various functions today

GUWAHATI: The 39th Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated throughout the state with various functions today. The central function was held in the city and Olympian gymnast Dipa Karmakar was the star attraction. The function was also attended by her coach Bisweswar Nandi.
September 3 is the birth day of the first Arjuna award winner from Assam Bhogeswar Baruah and Abhiruchi Group celebrates the day as the Sports Day. The day's function started with mass jogging which was flagged off by Dipa Karmakar. The event witnessed more than 1000 participants from various schools and institutions. In a brief speech Dipa's coach Bisweswar lauded the role of Sarbananda Sonowal as the former Sports Minister whose quick initiative helped Dipa to qualify for Rio Olympic. He also added that, "Assam under new Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is really doing well to create a good sports atmosphere in the state and the state will get the positive result within a very short period of time."
The function was followed by PT and Dance competition held at the Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor stadium.
