Imphal: The death toll in the Manipur landlsides, which occurred in Noney district of the state, has risen to 55 after the recovery of one more body, on Saturday.

As per reports, the deceased has been identified as a civilian who was engaged in railway construction work under Venkata Sai Construction.

So far, 55 dead bodies have been recovered while 18 persons were rescued alive from the landslide debris. However, 6 people are still missing.

Meanwhile, the Water Resource and Relief & Disaster Management Minister – Awangbow Newmai, has assured of continuing the rescue operations until all the victims are recovered.

Earlier, the Manipur Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh had referred to this incident as the "worst incident in the history of Manipur".

Several engineering equipment such as bulldozers and others are being used to make the incident site accessible and assist in the rescue efforts.

Reportedly, a thorough Wall Radar from Ladakh is also being inducted by air to detect the presence of personnel buried in the debris.

Forces like National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Indian Army, Assam Rifles, State Government teams, TA personnel, and Railways workers are involved in rescue operations at the landslide-hit Tupul station building.
