Meghalaya: University Busted in Fake Certificate Racket, 6 Arrested

SHILLONG : Mahatma Gandhi University of Northeast Meghalaya, got busted by the Telangana police department for issuing fake educational certificate. The police reportedly arrested six people who sold fake education certificates including a Software developer of a leading company.

According to sources, accused Millie Goel, the Director of MGU and clerk Shivani are absconding after the news. The other accused members have been identified as Dinesh Singh, Akhilesh Semwal, Tajinder Singh, Garikapati Venkata Bhaskar Satyanarayana Sharma, Geekuru Prem Kumar and Singarapu Sujatha.

The Cyberabad Special Operation Team (SOT) in collaboration with Miyapur police, conducted an investigation where they seized several fake certificates, equipments related to that, details of the students, cash of Rs 50000 and bill books. In this process, it came to light that the accused members has issued fake certificates to almost 400 people from the Telugu states.

The police also revealed that, the operator of Mahatma Gandhi University, Mr. Garikapati Venkata Baskara Satyanarayana Sharma, acquired Rs. 2.50 lakh from each candidate for the issue of fake educational certificate.

Mahatma Gandhi University also offered distance courses to students from 2001-2016 but it stopped because their license was not renewed. During this phase too, Sharma collected huge amount of money from candidates for issue of the certificates. And later on, the accused members including Millie Goel, provide the illegal documents to the students.

According to the police, the investigation started when Khaja Shaik Nayab Rasool, a resident of Miyapur sought help from Sharma in pursuing a degree course. Sharma then introduced Khaja to Prem and Akhilesh of MGU.

As asked, Khaja transferred Rs. 2.07 lakh and when he verified the received documents from the university, Khaja realised those are fake certificates.

He immediately informed about the matter to the police and as result Prem Kumar and Venkata Bhaskar was arrested.
