AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 3,000 kg of areca nut in General Area Tlansgam along the Indo-Myanmar border in Champhai district on April 26.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of 8 Assam Rifles, 2 Assam Rifles and rep of Customs Department, Champhai based on specific information. The approximate cost of the recovered areca nut is Rs 12,69,000.

Ongoing smuggling of areca nut is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border, stated a press release.
