AIZAWL: The taxation minister of Mizoram mentioned that contractors of the state are not paying taxes as they should and ordered the officials to take the necessary steps regarding the problem.

Minister Lalchamliana mentioned that he had received reports regarding the non-payment of the Goods and Services Taxes in the state by some of the registered contractors for some of the projects.

Speaking at an event organised by the taxation department in the state capital of Aizawl, the minister mentioned that the department should make proper arrangements to ensure that all the people who are eligible, must be registered under the Goods and Services Taxes.

On Thursday, the chief commissioner of Central Goods and Services Taxes, Central Excise and Customs for Guwahati Zone, Yogendra Garg infrared the governor of Mizoram, Hari Babu Kambhampati that compliance with the Goods and Services Taxes has not been upto the mark in the state. The meeting took place in the Raj Bhawan of Aizawl.

He mentioned that some of the local contractors were not paying the taxes as they should. The chief commissioner also insisted that there is still a lack of awareness regarding the matter among a large section of the public in the state.

Mizoram police seized large quantities of contraband drugs worth over Rs 10 crore and apprehended a woman in the Aizawl district on Monday evening. Acting on reliable input, Aizawl District Special Branch (DSB) team seized 5.204 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine from the possession of a woman identified as Maria Lalrotluangi (42) from inside the residence of a relative, where she was staying in the Laipuitlang area, Aizawl. According to Mizoram police, the seized drug is worth Rs 10.4 crore in the international market. FIR has been registered at Bawngkawn police station under NDPS Act for further investigation on forward and backward linkages.
