Kohima: A tragic incident has occurred in Nagaland where a gas leakage in a coal mine has led to the death of at least two coal miners with seven others getting severely injured. The incident took place in Naginimara town in Mon district of Nagaland bordering Assam.

As per reports, the incident happened when the miners were still inside the coal mine. The injured coal miners have been admitted to the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for medical attention.

Earlier, four miners hailing from Assam were found dead in Yonglok village under Tamlu in Longleng district of Nagaland after they reportedly inhaled some toxic gas or due to mudslides inside an abandoned coal mine.

The deceased had been identified as Jiten Tanti (40), Krishna Gogoi (32), Tutu Deka (28), and all of them hailed from Sivasagar district in Assam while Shusan Phukon (37) belonged to Charaideo district of Assam.

According to reports, the incident took place on 3 March 2019 at around 4 pm.

The dead bodies were recovered from the abandoned coalmine on the same day and were handed over to the families in presence of Yonglok Village Council members and the police.

In another similar incident, six workers were killed in an accident when they were working in a coal mine in East Jaintia hills district in Meghalaya.

According to reports, the incident unraveled when the workers were digging a tunnel in one of the coal mines near Rymbai village. Tragedy struck when all the six coal mine workers fell into a 150 feet deep, after the machine, which they were using to dig the tunnel, broke apart.

As per reports, all the coal mine workers came from Karimganj district of Assam.
