Kohima: The Rising People's Party (RPP) has sought clarification from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent statement that all eight North-Eastern states had agreed to make Hindi compulsory in schools up to class 10.

In an official statement, the party that there is a possibility that leaders here in Nagaland could accept the Amit Shah's decision.

''The party stated that the possibility of Nagaland politicians giving their personal nod to Shah, for making Hindi compulsory up to Class 10, couldn't be ruled out, while terming leaders from the state as "spineless", unlike in south India "where politicians fiercely guard their regional and linguistic identity", the statement added.

The party demanded that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister, state BJP president and Advisor for School Education department immediately clarify the controversial statement made by the home minister.

It further asserted that it wouldn't allow the imposition of the Hindi language in schools.

"The RPP stands for unity in diversity and any attempt to IMPOSE Hindi in the state/country is crass chauvinism and majoritarianism at play, and the RPP will oppose such policies tooth and nail,'' the party added.

''State educational policy falls under the prerogative of the state governments and any diktats by the central government on the issue is violative of the federal structure of the country and thus unacceptable," the statement read further.
