Assam: Ace Sprinter Amlan Borgohain Breaks Mens 200m National Record

Guwahati: Assam sprinter Amlan Borgohain created a new national record on Wednesday as the youngster clocked 20.52s in the 200m Men Finals in the Federation Cup at Calicut.

The 24-year-old broke the previous record of Sprinter Mohammad Anas, who held this record with a personal best timing of 20.63s at Jablonec and Nisou on August 15, 2018.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Athletics Federation of India informed the same and tweeted, ''Record Alert: Amlan Borgohain from Assam clocked 20.52s in the 200m Men Finals and created a New National Record. Previous Record was created by Md Anas at Jablonec and Nisou of 20.63s on 15 Aug 2018.''

Notably, riding on this performance, Borgohain has qualified for the 22nd Asian Games.

Last year, Borgohain had hit headlines with a fine performance at the 60th National Open Athletics Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Telangana.

He won the silver medal in the 100 meters with a personal best of 10.34 seconds and followed it up with a gold medal in the 200m with another personal best of 20.75.
