GUWAHATI: The State Government has decided to upgrade 250 villages of Assam to model villages under the Axom Adarxo Gram Yojana, with a view to ensuring their holistic development.

One ACS officer will monitor the upgradation work of the villages.

In this connection, the Personnel Department recently deputed 54 ACS officers for the purpose and they have been partially attached to the State's Transformation & Development Department. However, the deputed officers will have to also continue to carry out duties allotted to them in their current postings.

According to sources in the Transformation & Development Department, once work starts under the Axom Adarxo Gram Yojana the officers concerned will have to visit the villages allotted to them and ensure that the work is done according to the relevant guidelines. The sources added that the officers will serve as guides to the villages and act as their guardians at the State level.

It may be mentioned that the Axom Adarxo Gram Yojana was announced in the State Budget 2022-23 with a fund allocation of Rs 118 crore.

The scheme is aimed at improving infrastructure in schools, Anganwadi centres, health sub-centres, water supply schemes, veterinary sub-centres and community assets like naamghars, community centres, cremation grounds, ranga manchas (auditoriums) etc.
