GUWAHATI: The State Government asked the deputy commissioners to give details of government lands under encroachment in their respective districts. The government also wanted to know the details of people living on PGR (Professional Grazing Reserve) and VGR (Village Grazing Reserve).

The Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) Department wrote letters to the deputy commissioners on behalf of the government. The government is making this move as it does not have detailed data on encroachment of government lands and people living on PGR and VGR.

Talking to The Sentinel, R&DM Minister Jogen Mohan said, "Under no circumstances the government can tolerate people illegally occupying government lands. The government will evict all such people in phases. The indigenous landless people occupying government lands can approach the government seeking land settlements. The government will provide the land."

On PGR and VGR, the Minister said, "The government will prepare an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for giving land settlements to people living on such lands. Many indigenous people of the state have been living on PGRs and VGRs."
