Flood Damage: Central team arrives in Guwahati city, interacts with state officials
An Inter-Ministerial Central Team from the MHA arrived in Guwahati to assess the damage due to floods and landslides

GUWAHATI: An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) arrived in Guwahati today to assess the damage due to floods and landslides in the state.
The team interacted with the Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) and ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) officials on the flood situation and damage. This interaction is part of the Central team's scheduled four-day field visit to Assam from May 26 to May 29.
The Central team will split into two groups to visit the flood and landslide-affected districts. The first group, including team leader and National Disaster Management Authority's (NDMA) financial adviser Ravinesh Kumar, Assistant Director of the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance Anjali Maurya, Ministry of Road Transport's regional officer Adelbert Sungi, will visit Cachar and Dima Hasao districts on May 27 and May 28. Joint Secretary and Joint CEO of ASDMA P Vijay Bhaskar Reddy will accompany this group.
The second group, including Joint Director of the Ministry of Agriculture Jintu Das, Superintendant Engineer of the Ministry of Jal Shakti Ajay Kumar Sinha, Under Secretary to the Union Ministry of Rural Development Kailash Shankla, will visit Darrang, Nagaon and Hojai districts on May 27 and May 28.
Meanwhile, the ASDMA and other stakeholders expedited the response and recovery services to the severely affected districts.
According to an ASDMA report on floods, two persons lost their lives due to floods in the last 24 hours. The flood toll in the state is 30 (25 in floods and five in landslides) now.
The deluge affected 5,61,149 people in 956 villages in 12 districts in the last 24 hours, besides affecting 47139.12 hectares of crop areas. A total of 66,836 inmates are taking shelter in 295 relief camps.
According to the ASDMA, the flood situation is improving.
