GUWAHATI: The state government has decided that henceforth no passed-out senior student will not be allowed to stay in various college and university hostels of Assam.

This decision has been taken in view of the involvement of passed-out senior students in the horrific ragging incident at the Dibrugarh University recently.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday that ragging incidents would decrease by half as a consequence of this step. He further said that although the Anti-Ragging Act, 1999 is in existence, the college and university authorities will have to work in unison with the police to curb the menace of ragging.
