GUWAHATI: The internet services on mobile phones will go off for four hours each in larger areas of 25 districts in the state on August 21 and 28, when the State Government will conduct the written examinations of around 27,000 third-and-fourth-grade posts. The move is to prevent question papers of the two examinations from being leaked.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met all deputy commissioners and other officials on the two examinations today. He asked the deputy commissioners to conduct the examinations following the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) prepared to prevent unethical means. "The DCs and SPs must be ready to take action against any forces that can disrupt the examination process. The government is always responsible for the transparent employment of eligible youths in government jobs. If we can appoint eligible candidates, the face of the government will change for all time," the Chief Minister said.

The leakage of examination question papers through mobile phones has been a common practice in large-scale recruitment examinations. This time, the government does not want to take any risk. It has decided to write to the mobile network providers to block internet services to 25 districts on August 21 and 28 from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm. However, the broadband services will continue.

The Chief Minister said, "I know this move will make people suffer. I tender an apology before the public for that. I don't want any leakage of question papers of examinations for jobs."

Around 14,000 posts are in fourth grade, and 13,000 are in third grade. Nearly 14.30 lakh candidates have applied for these posts. The number of candidates will be around 11 lakh since many aspirants have applied for both third-and-fourth-grade posts.

In the last government, the question papers for the recruitment in the police force leaked from the police stations. It led the government to use extra strong rooms for question papers this time. Question papers will go directly to the examination halls under foolproof security. Officials deployed in examination centres also cannot take mobile phones with them. Temporary fencing works are going on in the unfenced examination centres. The administration will clamp Section 144 CrPC in a certain radius of the examination centres on the dates of examinations.

"There won't be any leniency in maintaining the examination sanctity," the Chief Minister said. He asked the DCs and SPs to be ready with men and materials to thwart unscrupulous elements from disrupting the examinations.
