GUWAHATI: It has come to light that it was the Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalization (CTCR) division of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) which had alerted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) about the trafficking racket involving illegal settlement of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals in India.

According to sources, the CTCR has even identified West Bengal, Assam and two other Northeastern States as the entry points for these illegal migrants from across the international border. It also mentions that the illegal migrants aim to eventually settle down in India.

The sources said that the traffickers have twin motives - exploiting the illegal migrants and also destabilizing the population ratio and demographic scenario of India.

It may be recalled that the NIA had filed a charge sheet before the NIA Special Court here against six accused persons in a case of trafficking of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims into India. The six accused persons are Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury @ KK Ahmed Chaudhury @ Asiqul Ahmed, Ahiya Ahmed Choudhury, Bapan Ahmed Choudhury, Sahalam Laskar, Jamaluddin Choudhury - all from Khelma village in Katigorah under the Cachar district - and Wanbiang Suting from the East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

The sources said that the Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalization had alerted the NIA that the Central Government had received information that the traffickers from India are colluding with Bangladeshi counterparts. They are helping the illegal migrants to enter India illegally through certain porous border passages in Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya and West Bengal and further facilitating their entry with fake Indian documents.

The sources further said that the traffickers are arranging for the illegal migrants' transportation with fake documents to different parts of the country on the strength of nationwide contacts. The aim of the illegal migrants is to mix up with the common people and settle in India permanently, the sources added.
