GUWAHATI: The State Government has decided to withdraw its minor cases to lessen the burden of pending cases on courts to let them try criminal cases on a fast track.

Hoisting the National Flag on August 15 in Guwahati, the Chief Minister made many announcements. He said, "The courts in the state stagger under the weight of around one lakh pending cases, and many of them are of minor offences. This burden of pending cases does not allow the courts to give adequate time to criminal and other major cases. We will appeal to the courts to withdraw the minor cases of the State Government. We will withdraw all minor cases of the State government registered till the midnight of August 14, 2022."

He said, "Assam has made rapid strides towards the path of development and progress in recent years. Let us follow PM Modi's clarion call to commemorate the next 25 years as Amrit Kaal and work wholeheartedly for the progress of our motherland. We will send 1,000 youths to cellular jail this year on an educational tour to help them get inspired by the sacrifices of our freedom fighters."

He said, "The State Government will spend Rs 10,000 crore for the development of infrastructure of 4,000 high and higher secondary schools."

The other announcements are setting up 15,000 more Anganwadi centres in the state and enacting an Act to preserve wetlands.

The Chief Minister appealed to all insurgent groups of the state to come forward for peace talks. "I urge secessionist groups to come for discussions and aid in Assam's development journey," he said.

He appealed to the people to fight against the corruption of government employees. He also appealed to government employees not to get involved in corrupt practices, to help eradicate untouchability from society, to preserve nature by planting saplings and taking care of them, and to do something for the development of native villages by everybody at least once a year, etc.

He also said that the government would provide the Pradhan Mantri Aushman Card to every BPL and ration-card holder family.
