Rangia is a town and municipal board, situated in Kamrup district, Assam. It is also an Assembly Constituency. The town is about 52 km away from Dispur, Guwahati. The official language of the town is Assamese. There are many educational institutions in Rangia. Some of them are: Modern English School, Sankardev Academy Junior College, Jawaharlal Nehru Shishu Vidyalaya and Rangia College.


ASSEMBLY CONSTITUENCY NAME AND NUMBER

Rangia is one out of 126 Constituencies and bears number 57. It falls under Mangaldoi Lok Sabha Constituency.


PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY

Rangia falls under the Mangoldoi Parliamentary Constituency. Dilip Saikia of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Lok Sabha Election 2019 with 735469 votes and Bhubaneswar Kalita of the Indian National Congress party became the runner up with 596924 votes.


DISTRICT

Rangia is located in Kamrup district. Kamrup is an administrative district in Assam, India. The area covered by the district is 4345 square km. Amingaon is the district headquarter of Kamrup. As per 2011 census, the district has total 1517542 population.

Rangia Assembly Constituency has a population of 1,55,333 from which the males are 80,630 and the female are 74,703. The people that live in Urban areas are 11,822, from which 5,971 are male and 5,851 are female and the people that live in rural areas are 36405 from which the males are 18,788 and females are 17,617. The literate people in Rangia are 1,17,523 out of which, 64,736 are male literates and 52,787 are female literates and the illiterate peoples are 37,810 from which 15,894 are male illiterate and 21,916 are female illiterate.

Schedule Caste residing in Rangia is 5,505 of which 2,793 are males and 2,712 are females and the people belonged to Schedule Tribes are 9,350 of which 4,673 are males and 4,677 are females.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, Rangia Assembly Constituency witnessed a polling percentage of 54.25%, and the polling percentage was 40.72% in 2016 Assembly Election and in 2014 Lok Sabha Election, the polling percentage was 49.72%.


RESULT OF LAST FIVE ELECTION

  1. In Assam Assembly Election 1996, Thaneswar Boro of the Asom Gana Parishad party was the winner with 43,260 votes and Umesh Kalita of the Indian National Congress party was the runner up with 17494 votes.
  2. In 2001, Bhubaneswar Kalita of the Indian National Congress party won the election with 33,308 votes and defeated Ananta Deka of the CMP, who got 31,560 votes.
  3. In 2006 Election Ananta Deka of CPI(M) won the MLA seat with 41970 votes and Bhubaneswar Kalita of the Indian National Congress Party became the runner up with 35,855 votes.
  4. In 2011, Ghanashyam Kalita of the Indian National Congress Party became the winner with 34,119 votes and defeated Thaneswar Baro of Asom Gana Parishad party who secured 24,045 votes.
  5. In 2016 Election, Bhabesh Kalita of the Bharatiya Janata party won the election with 58,353 votes and defeated Ghanashyam Kalita of the Indian National Congress Party, who got 26,286 votes.

PERCENTAGE VOTE SHARE OF POLITICAL PARTY IN LAST ELECTION

In 2016 Rangia Election, Bhabesh Kalita of BJP won the MLA seat by securing 40.72% of the overall vote. Ghanashyam Kalita of INC party became the runner up with 18.34%. Abdul Samad Choudhury of AIUDF secured 10.16%. Ananta Deka of CMP secured 8.56% and the independent candidates, Mrinal Deka, Thaneswar Baro, Samsul Haque, Pabitra Baro, Rajib Kakoti, Biswajit Brahma and Babul Baro secured, 12.4%, 3.74, 3.12%, 0.86%, 0.74%, 0.43% and 0.4% respectively.
