DIBRUGARH: In a shocking incident that unfolded in broad daylight, a man identified as Babul Chetry was arrested for brutally attacking his wife with a machete in Moran town, Dibrugarh district. The assault, which left his wife, Nibha Chetry, with severe injuries, occurred after allegations surfaced that she had attempted to sell their own child.

Eyewitnesses in the vicinity swiftly alerted the local police, who promptly arrived at the scene and apprehended the accused husband. Nibha Chetry, suffering from grievous wounds, was quickly aided by locals and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

While acquaintances of the couple mentioned that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute, Babul Chetry claimed that he acted in a fit of rage after discovering his wife's alleged attempt to sell their only son.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and have registered a case against Babul Chetry under the relevant sections of the law.

Unfortunately, this horrific incident follows another recent act of violence in Assam's Tinsukia district. Just earlier this month, a man named Harinder Prasad reportedly attacked his daughter-in-law, severing her hands with a machete. Local residents, alarmed by the victim's cries for help, rushed to the scene and swiftly transported her to Tinsukia Civil Hospital in critical condition. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh for specialized treatment.

One witness, who had received a distress call from the victim's husband, immediately rushed to the location. The husband informed him that his father had assaulted his wife with a machete. After committing the gruesome act, Harinder Prasad surrendered himself to the Tinsukia Police, handing over the weapon used in the attack. He now faces charges of attempted murder.

These distressing incidents have left the local community shocked and concerned about the rising instances of violent acts within families. Authorities are being urged to address the underlying issues that contribute to such heinous crimes and take measures to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals within households.

As investigations proceed in both cases, it remains crucial for society to prioritize efforts to raise awareness, promote peaceful resolutions to conflicts, and provide support systems for individuals facing difficult circumstances, with the ultimate aim of preventing such horrifying incidents from recurring.
