One held in South West Khasi Hills for physical relationship with minor

Police said that the mother of the minor filed an FIR against the accused person accusing him of luring the girl into being in a physical relationship on the pretext of marrying her.

SHILLONG: The police in South West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya has arrested a 30-year old man for allegedly having a physical relationship with a minor girl on the pretext of marrying her.

The police has arrested the man identified as Eveningstar Shangdiar (30) from Rangthong village of South West Khasi Hills District.

Police said that the mother of the minor girl earlier filed an FIR against the accused person accusing him of luring the girl into being in a physical relationship on the pretext of marrying her.

Eveningstar Shangdiar has been sent to judicial custody.

Earlier in Assam, the police arrested a 45-year old teacher for allegedly raping a nine-year old girl at Baksa in Assam. According to police sources, the teacher was identified as Manik Nath (45) is serving at the Amrawati English School purportedly physically abusing the minor girl for several days. The police sources also informed that the teacher is a neighbor of the victim minor girl and whenever the parents of the victim left the house he took the chance and used to rape the girl.

However, the victim minor girl had been informed about the matter to her parents but due to lack of evidence, the parents could not file a complaint with the police. The child belongs to a financially backward family. This time when he again repeated the act, the victim girl smartly used her father's phone and recorded the entire incident. On the basis of the recorded video the police arrested Nath and booked him under provisions of POCSO and started an investigation.

A total of 65,845 cases of crimes against women and adolescent girls have been registered in Assam in the last five-and-half years. According to Assam Police sources, since 2016 till July 31, 2021, altogether 65,845 cases of crime against women and adolescent girls have been registered across the State.
