Assam student Chayanika Dutta wins national prize at Kala Utsav in Delhi

Chayanika Dutta, a student from Hahchara High School, Sivasagar, won a bronze medal and third prize in the category of instrumental music (percussion) in the national-level Kala Utsav.

GUWAHATI: Chayanika Dutta, a student from Hahchara High School, Sivasagar, won a bronze medal and third prize in the category of instrumental music (percussion) in the national-level Kala Utsav. She performed at the national-level Kala Utsav with Dhol at National Bal Bhawan, Delhi.

Kala Utsav is an initiative of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, to promote arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students in the country.

Twenty students from the state went to the national-level Kala Utsav 2023–24 and have been shortlisted by Samagra Shiksha, Assam, during the state-level competition of Kala Utsav 2023 organized by Samagra Shiksha, Assam, on November 1, 2023, at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari. These shortlisted students competed at the national level, two each in the categories of vocal music—traditional folk, vocal music—classical, instrumental music—percussive, instrumental music—melodic, dance classical, dance folk, visual arts (2-dimensional), visual arts (3-dimensional), indigenous games and toys, and drama (solo acting).

As many as 200 students from all districts of Assam participated in the state-level competition, held in Guwahati on November 1, 2023. Eight students from Sivasagar, five from Kamrup (M), two each from Jorhat and Karimaganj, and one each from Charaideo, Tinsukia, and Golaghat were shortlisted by the judges for the national-level competition.
