GUWAHATI: Hatigaon police arrested a couple – Sabur Ali and his wife Anna Khatun – from Jur Simli, a sar in the Chhaygaon area today in connection with the murder of Jainuddin Ahmed (45). Ahmed was found dead in a house in the Hatigaon area.
The police produced the couple before the court today. The court sent them to police custody for three days.
According to the police, Anna Khatun works as domestic help from house to house and takes stock of valuables and people staying in various families. She used to pass all such information to her husband, who loots houses. Sabur Ali had cases with the police in such incidents earlier also.
The police recovered Ahmed's body from a house (H/no. 42) in the Shankar Azan Path- French Path area of Hatigaon. The house belongs to retired Abdul Haque, who is in Hyderabad with his family for medical treatment. Jainuddin Ahmed lived in a rented house on the opposite side of the road. The Haque family had requested Ahmed to sleep in the house to guard the property.
On Monday night, after having dinner in his house, Ahmed went to sleep in Abdul Haque's house at around 11.30 pm. When he did not return home the following morning, his wife called him on his mobile phone. When he did not answer, the wife and another person went to Haque's house to check on Ahmed and found him dead. The body bore injury marks on the forehead.
