GUWAHATI: The National Youth Day was celebrated at Gauhati University on Friday. The event was organised by Vikshit Bharat at the 2047 Cell of Gauhati University and the Gauhati University NSS Cell through an online platform. In connection with the celebration of National Youth Day, a declamation contest was held among NSS volunteers and students of all the affiliated colleges under Gauhati University. The topic of the declamation contest was Vikshit Bharat (2047). Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director, Students Welfare, GU and NSS Programme Coordinator, GU Cell, said that National Youth Day holds profound importance as it symbolises the embodiment of Swami Vivekananda's faith to empower the youths to transform society for the better. Dr. Jintu Gohain, Assistant Professor, Pashim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya, and Rittik Rupam Sarmah of the Dept. of Sociology at Gauhati University acted as jury members.

The prize winners of the competition were also declared. The first prize was given to Darisha Pathak of Abhayapuri College; the second prize went to Liza Barman of Abhayapuri College; and the third prize went to Shruti Agasthi of Biswanath College and Ahana Roy of Handique Girls College. The winners will receive a trophy, a certificate, and a beautiful gift at a ceremonial function to be organised at the Gauhati University campus.
