NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio, which is currently listed as the network with the highest number of subscribers as well as an active connection across the country, faced a serious outage in the morning hours of Tuesday, November 29.

The network outage caused problems as lakhs of its users could not make or receive calls in the morning, Neither could they send any text messages from their native network. A large number of users took to the popular microblogging site Twitter to raise complaints regarding the issue using the tag #JioDown. While almost all of them reported the inability to make any calls or send any messages, some also took to sharing memes related to the problem they were facing. While some people were able to continue browsing, some others reported a complete failure of the network.

DownDetector a popular website that keeps an eye on the performance of different websites and networks also reported this outage. According to their projection, the problem peaked at around 8 AM today. The outage started at around 6 AM in the morning and came down by around 10 AM. But it was still way more than the average number at even 1 PM. It reported that about 38% of the people who reported the outrage, did not have any signal on their phones. 37% could not make calls and 26% were unable to access the internet during peak hours according to the website.

Although Reliance Jio is the largest player in the market, network outrages are not uncommon for the provider. Call drops, new low internet speeds and sudden disappearance of networks are common happenings for the brand. With a huge number of customers and inappropriate network capacities, customers have faced these outages several times since its inception about a decade and a half ago.
