Former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, is set to receive the Assam Baibhav Award 2023 for his remarkable achievements in the realm of law and justice. As the 46th Chief Justice of India and the first from Northeast India, Gogoi has left an indelible mark on the legal landscape. Currently serving as a Member of the Rajya Sabha, his commitment to public service continues.

The Assam Government has meticulously selected 22 recipients across diverse categories for the prestigious Assam Saurav and Assam Gaurav awards. From archaeology to sports, environmental activism to entrepreneurship, the awardees represent excellence in their respective fields.

The list of awardees includes notable figures like Dr. Kishan Chand Nauriyal for Art and Culture (Archaeology), Elvis Ali Hazarika for Sports (Swimming), and Hima Das for Sports (Athletics). The categories also honor individuals such as Parvati Barua, an environmentalist and animal conservation activist, and Neelam Dutta for contributions to Agriculture through organic farming.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for February 10, with the Vice President of India serving as the Chief Guest. Assam's Civilian Awards, akin to the Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards, celebrate exceptional individuals who have significantly impacted society. The number of awards may vary annually based on the decisions of the Award Committee.

In his statement to the media, CM Sarma reflected on the esteemed history of the Assam Baibhav Award, noting previous recipients such as Ratan Tata and Tapan Saikia. This year, the honor goes to the distinguished legal luminary Ranjan Gogoi, adding another illustrious name to the list of those who have made exceptional contributions to their fields and the state of Assam.
