GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet in a sitting ahead of the Autumn Session that kickstarted on 12 September and will continue till 19 September took some key decisions to achieve the ultimate goal of Antodyaya according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

One of the highlights of the decisions taken in the Sunday sitting was accepting the Vision Document of Disaster Roadmap 2030. Assam's plan is to reduce losses and damages caused due to natural and man-made calamities and also to strengthen the communities against disasters and climate change risks so that the communities are aware of the oncoming disasters and they stay ready with all the precautions.

Another highlight of the cabinet decisions is the dismissal of 3 lakh petty cases that are pending in various sub-ordinate courts throughout the state. This will not only lighten the burden of the judiciary but also help Assam save from its allotted 159 crores for Jail maintenance as inmate food costs will come down drastically.

Another decision was taken to approve new universities and to boost the Bodo language in the state by filling up the vacant posts of teachers in the Bodo department in Provincialised colleges.

The government in a proactive measure also has taken the decision to augment a White revolution in the state by leasing out land to the joint venture company formed by the government of Assam and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

This new government has taken many measures since its inception to strengthen the education sector of the state and in view of this, the cabinet decided to upgrade the Polytechnic and IT sector, which would provide opportunities to 15,000-20,000 students every year to learn new technologies related to the industry.

The state Cabinet also decided to ensure accountability of the Police by approving the Assam Police (Amendment) Bill, 2022. The proposed amendment will look into the establishment of a District Accountability Authority in each Police District or group of districts in a Police Range to ensure accountability of the police further and to enquire into cases of complaints of serious misconduct against police personnel.
