GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet meeting held in Korajhar on Tuesday saw the undertaking and discussions of many important decisions.

The Government of Assam has been making efforts for quite a long time to highly prioritise the all-around development of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Consequently, the Government has made decisions to grant approval to Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) to provincialize 10 colleges in the areas of the region.

Adding to the decision is the Government's announcement to allocate a sum of Rs. 500 crores, which would facilitate the development of Bodoland Territorial Council. Along with this, the government would also undertake the construction of 500km of roads and bridges in the region.

According to statements in the meeting, 50 per cent of the money meant to be allocated, i.e., Rs 250 crores will be provided this fiscal year. The concerned authority will receive the other half of the money next fiscal year.

The meeting also saw the decision to establish Auniati University, which would be a cultural university. The formation of the District Police Accountability Commission was also decided.

The cabinet also stated that about 48 obsolete laws will be repealed.

The cabinet while taking into consideration the need to facilitate Bodo learning, decided to introduce the language as a medium of instruction at the HS level. They mentioned that the professors, assistant professors, and associate professors would be appointed regardless of the extent of reservation.

Additionally, the appointment of teachers to teach the Bodo language would be executed irrespective of a candidate's cast. A candidate possessing the required qualifications, irrespective of their cast will be able to apply for the said post.

After the meeting, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, took to Twitter and expressed that the #AssamCabinet met in Kokrajhar to adhere to their decision of holding cabinet meetings in different districts. He further added in his tweet that the cabinet took major decisions, which focused on the development of BTR, police accountability, repeal of Obsolete Acts, new cultural university, sports varsity etc.
